Feliz día de San Valentin!
It's St. Valentine's Day!
"Feliz Día de el Amor y de la Amistad" as it is called in Mexico,
and in many Latin American countries.
It's more then a Hallmark marketing ploy as an old CEO friend
of mine used to declare.
Every February 14th people around the globe celebrate today
by sending flowers, giving each other cards or chocolates
to those they feel love or affection for.
Did you ever wonder who was St. Valentine?
From what I have read he was a priest who served during third century
Rome under the Emperor Claudius II.
The Emperor decided that single men made better soldiers.
He outlawed marriage for all young men in the hope of building
a stronger army of warriors.
The old priest Valentine, decided the Emperor's decree wasn't fair,
and secretly began to marry young couples.
When Emperor Claudius II discovered that the priest had disobeyed
him he ordered Valentine put to death.
Then again I read another legend about today's holiday.
Valentine was imprisoned and had fallen in love with his jailor's daughter.
Days before being put to death he sent a written message to her,
and signed it you guessed it.. "Your Valentine."
Two words that are still used today.
So I hope you have a great Valentine's Day.
Send flowers, a card and e-mail or make that call..
it's always a great reminder to go out of your way to show someone
you are thinking about them,
love them or both.
Make it a Feliz día de San Valentin!
